How to Store Your Bicycle

Do you just leave your bicycle outside after a ride around the neighbourhood? While it is not your most expensive investment, your bike is still a prized target for thieves. In addition, leaving the bicycle outside exposes it to nature's harsh elements. Thus, you need to store your unit in a safe, sheltered place.

Your garage is a good place to keep your bicycle because this place protects your unit from harsh sunshine, rain, and dust. For added protection, especially if you have a dusty garage, you can cover your bicycle with a piece of canvas. These covers can be purchased from a nearby bicycle accessories store. Next, if your unit does not have a built-in kickstand, purchase a bike stand that fits in your garage so you can store your bike right side up.

You can also store your bicycle in your living area, especially if you do not the luxury of the large space of a garage. You can keep it behind the door or under the stairs so it would not be an eyesore to guests. Another good way to store it without sacrificing space is to hang your bicycle on the wall. Have someone lift up your bike to a wall and mark the spots that are against the top tube and chain stays. Remove the bike and drill a couple of hooks using your marks as guides. Finally, you may want to get more creative by hanging your bike from the ceiling! Screw sturdy hooks on the ceiling beams where you can hang your bike. If the ceiling is too high, you can install a bike hoist to help you with the task.
