How to Have a Dirt-Bike Themed Room

Do you have an old mountain bike lying around your garage? Before throwing it away, how about using it to add a unique flavour to your room? Check out these few guidelines on how to do it.

First, paint your wall with an earthy colour such as light tan or mud. If you have the budget, you may want to simulate ground texture on the wall by spraying concrete on the wall and letting it dry without smoothing the surface with a float. Do this before you paint your walls.

Next, dip the bike's tyres in black or dark brown paint. Then roll the tyres on the wall to make interesting tread patterns. You can make the pattern either as a border or as a lazy criss-cross design across your painted wall. Do not worry if the design is messy and smudgy because this will actually match with the dirt-bike theme. If you do want to get rid of a few drips, dampen a sponge or cloth in thinner and carefully wipe away the drip.

Once the wall is dry, disassemble the bike and use the parts to liven up your room. For instance, hang the wheels on the wall above your bed's headboard. Or take out the bike's handles and place them at the end of your curtain rods. You can also bolt the frame in a corner so you can use it to hang your clothes or other paraphernalia. Finally, print out pictures of bike racing scenes or dirt bikes. Have them framed and hung on the wall. You can also add a twist by outlining the frames with the tread-printing technique described earlier.
