Etiquette in the Museum

Museums are wonderful places where you can appreciate humanity's art, history, culture, and innovation. It is here where you learn about the past, present, and future through paintings, metal sculptures, and other artefacts. Because this is a place of knowledge and enlightenment, you need to exercise proper etiquette. Indeed, many museums offer free pamphlets that enumerate their rules. The following are the general rules that you have to obey when you enter any museum.

First, do not bring any food or drink inside. The sound and sight of you munching your snacks can disturb other visitors. In addition, small droplets of moisture from your foodstuff or drink can float in the air and stick to sheet metal sculptures and items, causing the items to rust. Furthermore, you might spill your foodstuff, which creates an unsightly mess on the pristine floor.

Next, avoid smoking inside the museum. Smoke deposits can cause damage to museum pieces such as metal sculptures, paintings, and other art pieces. If you cannot resist the urge to smoke, go outside the building where you can have a puff or two.

Most important of all, do not touch anything that is on display. Unless you are in an interactive museum, most pieces that are on display are for your eyes only. If you touch the metal of a sculpture, the surface of stone carvings, or the oils of a painting, you risk damaging the piece with the moisture and oil from your fingers. Finally, do not make too much noise or rowdy actions like shoving or pushing your companions. These acts are very annoying to other museum patrons. If you insist in doing these, you might be escorted outside by security personnel.
